The Parish Council

The Parish Council is the closest sector of local government to the community. It has certain powers and duties under the law and it must serve all residents fairly and equitably taking into consideration different interests and concerns.

All decisions are made at properly convened Parish Council meetings unless delegated powers have been give to committees. Decisions can not be made by the clerk, the chairman or by individual Councillors. As per our financial regulations, some decisions may have to be made between meetings, for example in an emergency but these decisions are always ratified retrospectively at the next Parish Council meeting.

The Parish Council has excellent partnership links with Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council and Leicestershire County Council and we work together in developing intiatives that concern the Parish.

Elections are held every four years when all Councillors must be re-elected or stand down. Vacancies arising inbetween elections can be filled by co-option.

The Council employs a part-time Parish Clerk who is instructed by the decisions made at Council.

Public Participation

To help inform and enrich the debate, the Council offers an open session at the start of the meeting for members of the public to comment or raise questions about any item on the agenda.

Members of the public can not form part of the debate during the meeting, unless a point of clarification is required. This will only be initiated through the Chair. However they are very welcome to attend Council meetings and listen to the debate for any part (or all) of the meeting.

If members of the public wish to raise a particular issue that they want the Council to debate, then it should be brought to the attention of the Clerk at least 2 weeks prior to a Parish Council meeting. Please contact the Clerk or your local Parish Councillor for further details.
